The innovative Reverse Bend Blade design is an UltraThin blade bent in the reverse direction of a regular cold knife blade with the added paint protection coating. This allows the technician to cut down and away from the glass, rather than up towards the glass. The reverse bend cuts without digging into or damaging encapsulated glass or underside molding. The shank’s cutting edge has been modified to prevent scratches to the pinchweld or from cutting into the perimeters of parts with applied moldings on the edge of the glass.

The conical ground shape on the back of the new UltraWiz^® Radius Serrated Blade is different from anything ever made before. This design, along with the serrations create a very thin blade with much less cutting resistance than anything in the industry! The radius grind is similar to what techs have been doing for years, but on these blades, it is done before heat treating to produce the highest performance possible. The unique serration design leaves small leading edge points to pierce the urethane for an easier pull during cutting. Also with only the small serration points touching the glass, the majority of the blade stays sharp for continued cutting ease.

Manufacturers are always looking for ways to save money when building cars, and what better way to save money than to leave the molding off of the glass. They give no thought to the problems this will create for the glass technician. A small scratch that would not be a problem with a molding to hide it now becomes a huge problem with the exposed area because the paint must be matched to the car. With the Exposed Pinchweld Removal Blades, the problems associated with this method of installation are now solved. UltraWiz® has developed these blades, which have a smooth plastic coating on the back, so if the blade touches the paint, it will not be damaged. The coating is very tough and will not easily rub off. The blade is based on the UltraWiz® UltraThin blade, so it is one of the thinnest blades in the industry. All blades will have a small amount of coating on the inside of the shank, but it will be kept as thin as possible to keep from increasing the blade thickness. This is critical due to the limited clearance that is available in many vehicles, especially in the corners. Also, the tip or cutting edge is not coated. Any coating on the cutting edge would reduce its sharpness, increasing the resistance during cutting, and thereby increasing the chance of blade failure.
